Woman struggling to steal a suitcase

My mom, the OG Pirate-Artist. Currently trying to steal that suitcase.

She is silly, ridiculous, and tiny af, but DO NOT underestimate her.

Armed with a fine art degree, a childhood spent in a makeshift artists' colony, a lifelong addiction to the color chartreuse, a basement stuffed to the point of structural failure from art supplies, and 47 blank journals too pretty to use — I am the creative instigator, inspirator, and motivator you didn't know you were looking for.

My coaching style is fun, funny, and relentlessly encouraging — think Mrs. Frizzle with art supplies, so much caffeine it could easily be mistaken for cocaine, questionable fashion choices, and a few key swear words for spice and intrigue.

Through workshops, our soon to be live, online community, creative challenges, collaborative projects, and 1920s mobster boss-style strong-arm techniques, I dole out creativity permission slips by the stack.

I believe every single human is creative.
Yes, even you. Exactly as you are.

While the world profits from convincing you otherwise, my mission is to remind you what the kid in you has always known — that making art is at the very heart of being human.

Join me in the Doodle Rebellion.

This project,
this rebellion,
Is deeply personal to me.

Access to your creativity and the benefits of letting it live in your everyday life is the GIFT I want to give to everyone.

Growing up with my mom's old art supplies as toys and mounds of random paper leftover from the print shop where my dad worked, creativity was woven into the fabric of my family.

If we didn't have it, we made it, built it, sewed it, or stole it.

(Joking!)

(mostly… My mom makes no apologies — she did what she had to. This is where my Pirate Rebel vibes come from.)

It's a large part of who I am today.
And I'm grateful.

My creative practice has seen me through the very best of times and some seriously dark times. And not just the cozy, it's-winter kind of darkness where you binge-watch the same movie for weeks on end and knit an endless collection of two-color scarves — because I have absolutely done that — but the heavy, lonely kind of darkness when everything feels oppressive and hopeless.

There were days when getting out of bed was the hardest part of the day. When sadness seemed to close in from every direction, and sketchbooks were filled with more tears than paint.

Creating — even if it was the same scarf, in the same pattern, in the same dank dark room, on the same stinky sticky couch divot, day after day — became my small act of hope.
It was the thread that helped pull me through.

Everyone got scarves for Christmas that year.

My creative practice has taught me patience and how to find my way through frustration, disappointment, and uncertainty.

Making art.

Doodling in airports.

Drawing in the margins.

Knitting on subways and avoiding eye contact with the creeper picking his nose.

Sketching on grassy slopes in the rain at the edge of a roaring ocean, cackling with laughter with an equally deranged and art obsessed friend.

Taking 40 bajillion photos of waves, leaves, birds, trees, raindrops on petals, sunsets, sunrises, clouds, and reflections has brought me more joy and delight than I can accurately describe — and offered up HOURS of tea-gone-cold flow state.

I started Doodle Rebellion because I genuinely want this level of joy, delight, connection to self and flow for EVERYONE! It's my gift to those who didn't grow up with a Creative Genius Pirate for a mother.

The joy. The serenity. The self-connection. The quiet, radical act of making something with your hands in a world that profits from convincing you that you probably shouldn't — this is what Doodle Rebellion is about!
